Hi all,

i've just bought this and am wondering if you all could fill me in a little.

Now its a 2 litre 16v. apparently SLX IE. i thought it was a sedicivalvole, well it is but i thought they were sportier looking?

Registered in 1994, what power should the engine have? i've read 139hp, whereas the earlier ones were 148? what would be the reason for this, catalytic converter?

I'm really not sure whether to keep it or not. It goes very well and all the bits work.

some extra information about these would be really useful. i wanna know what i've got

thanks!

This off ebay?
Right, this model was 8V and not 16V as in Sedici. Engine rated at 115bhp.
I rate the 8V above the 16V for reliability. With the right parts, the engine can make over 180bhp quite easily. Torque at the bottom end is vastly supierior to an 16V, but ultimately as standard, the 16v would out accelerate you on the top end.

Well, i'm completely bowled over by that.

The low down torque is good - and it doesn't do an awful lot higher up

i just can't believe how easily i lead muself to think it was 16v. the engine looks like a twin cam, so would assume 4 valves per cylinder

i'm shocked..

Hooray a 2.0 8v at last! I thought they were sold as the Grande Turismo, not as the SLX IE. If you can take it along to the Northern Italia meet sometime as I'd love a drive out. In turn I'll bring along the milkbottle.

Hope you don't mind but this is a perfect opertunity to show off the engine cover again :D

Nice to see an 8v! I agree with sumplug and others - these are very drivable and quite rare cars.

One thing - when you bought it were you told it was a Sedici - if so you may have some come back - if not I would keep it and enjoy it for what it is. I would however change the wheels - I never was a fan of those. The 2ltre 8v's badged as "Gt" had very nice four spoke versions of the sedicivalvole "starfish" design whch look really cool. I would just make sure it has had a belt chnage - just in case

It might be worth looking on E/bay for these and also brochures of the same year (the 1993 one which includes the Sedici 5 door has some quite good info).

Re the comments re the weak bottom end for the 16v - they seem to fall into 2 catagories - those that give trouble and those that appear bulletproof for some reasson - further confirming that no two 16 valves are the same!! I'm convinced that is because they are really alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly! Mines over 100k and so is Bunny's dad's. Both are solid. I would have thought that they share a common 2.0 block.

No, he said he thought it was a 16v but had been told it was an 8v.

i agreed with him based on the engine being twin cam

*i didn't want to believe it wasn't a Sedicivalvole*
LOL

First thing is to T-cut it. it is certainly well equipped. i'll see how it goes as to whether it'll stays.

hi there jiminwatford,
i told him it was an 8v cos i was also bidding on the car too, like you say he was unsure,
Hope you are enjoying your Teapot experience so far,

""Once tipo'ed forever smitten im afraid"",,,

I gotta go get another one tommorow 1.6ie 5dr in red!!

2.0 LTR SLXI was made from 1994-1995.

DAZ.
cant believe you are getting another Teapot !!
Your hooked on them arnt you??!! :D (y)

Nice to see a rare Tipo model on the forum Jim. The 2.0 ie SLX was a top-spec model with a useable, grunty 8V engine, let down only by those grim looking alloys! They originally had very bland, flat Fiat centre caps fitted. I'm sure insurance is a lot less than for a Sedi.

Your car would really suit some 14" Tempra alloys, my local Fiat spannerman is breaking one if you're interested. I'm on the Wirral, not to handy for Watford!
