General Team Specs

Hi everyone,

I've tried for hours to find the trim/ spec details for a 1.7 td 60s team I have tracked down, 1999 (v). I've searched on this forum for the answer with no luck so I thought I'd better post. If you are all sick of such questions, sorry.

And how is the diesel regarded? Anything to watch for, it's done 65000.

The Team is based on the basic 'S' model and was available with the 1242cc 60 bhp petrol engine and the 1.7 (1696cc?) TD with 60bhp.

It was a last of the line model and came with the usual 'S' sparce features of;

Tinted glass
Stereo radio cassette
Folding rear seat

However, to this the Team specification adds;

Tilt and slide manual sunroof
Rev counter
Upholstered headrests
14" wheels
Clear front indicators

Not only that, but all diesel Punto's come with power assisted steering.

The downside to the 'TD' models (both 60 and 70) is they need an oil change service every 4500 miles or 6 months. Make sure this has been done as it is possible the owner has skimped on this. Diesels need the oil to be changed as per specification. The TD60 is a noisy beast but they are very reliable so long as they are looked after properly. Check it has a service history, regular cambelt change (it should have been done in the last few years) and the car is tidy, then it should be fine

doubt it will have alloys, will have 14" x 165 rubber on steels thats all.


THing to watch for on most diesels is state of front shocks and cv joints, diff, suspesnion bushs, as a 1.7l diesel will weigh as much as a 2.0-2.3 litre petrol engine, as the compression is that much higher (more like 16:1 rather than the petrols 9.8:1), also the extra torque can eat diffs and cv joints alive (usually they are beefier but usually still not enough), I know the front shocks on the diesels are beefier, but still worth a check.
