hi  just transfered to talk talk today (from plusnet) i think i was on 4 meg with plusnet, talk talk seems very slow, especially on start up and then seems to speed up, it said speeds were 'up to 8mb' which is probablys once in a blue moon! does it speed up after you've had it in a few days or is it this slow all the time?

oh and what do i do about email addresses and signing in to check my account details, i have the username and password to put into my router, which is my phone number @ talktalk.net just not sure how to sign into their website.

thanks!

i'm still waiting for my talktalk to go live.

the speed depends on many things, how far away you are from the nearest exchange, how many people are using it close to you at the same time, then the website you're using could be under high demand (ebay is slow for everyone at certain times of day)

also, you cant get 8meg broadband, "up to" means in theory if it was possible then maybe you'd get something like. they have to say "up to" because it would be false advertising if they just said 8meg, coz thats not possible and no one would actually get it that fast. in reality most people can get a max of 1 or 2 meg, mayeb more of you live in an area where BT has already upgraded the lines and you're close to an exchange and you have low interference on your line (about 2% of the population), so your talktalk should be exactly the same speed as your previous 4meg connection. if its slower it probably means there are a lot of people connected to talktalk i your area, in which case bad luck.

it is the most popular internet provided lately thanks to their (recently proven false) claims that you can get the whole package for £19.99, but then they say you're not in the discount area so its really £29.99 (no-one is actually in the discount area)

dont use their email address. use an online one, its better (you can access it anywhere)

i use mail.com because your email addres will be [email protected] and thats so easy to remember and tell people.

its the same watchdog thing they had about homecall (pipex) lastime, and AOL before that, and BT before that. bascially all the internet providers have the same problems, and its not because their doing anything wrong, only BT are to blame because BT manage the physical network, talktalk just charge you for using BT hardware. its like blaming NPower for electricity outages, they dont manage the national grid, they just charge you for using it, its the same with broadband. BT are to blame. in the UK we dont even have a fibre optic backbone! we've so far behind the rest of the world it makes me sad. we had fibre optics in dubai in the mid 90s, surely the UK (supposedly a developed country) could join the rest of the world and invest in commuication technology.

thanks for the replies, it was my mam who changed, i was happy with plus net although there customer service is the worst yet usually (3 hours wait to talk to anyone, and i'm sure it's the same bloke) i was only wanting an email address so i could sign into their site and keep an eye on my download limit, i tried logging on with the username they gave me to put into my router but it didn't work :(

does my NTL connection piggy back onto BT as well? and would it suffer the same issues of reduced speeds if a lot of people in the same area had a connection?
NTL/Telewest have their own network completely separate from Bl**dy Terrible.

I work for talk talk and if i cant get through to cust serv no bugger else has a chance in hell :p

We have just taken over from onetel, the migration started in may and has been a PITA  Charles has taken on more than the company can cope with. Its growing too fast and the staff cant cope. We have only just launched the business BB and we are getting complaints already - My job is no fun at all. I definately wouldnt go with Talk Talk atm

anyone know how i log into their site to view my account details, thanks! :D
Try, https://www.talktalk.co.uk/portal/servlet/gben-portal-register-Register

I've just signed up to Talk 3 International. Took absolute ages to get up and running. I actually went on the phone to cancel but I was on hold for a while so I just hung up. A couple of days later I got a phone call telling me everything was up and running.

Got recommended not to use the Talk Talk Broadband, the sales representative said it was absolutely crap, it was really slow and they’re having loads of problems with it.

thanks for that! :D it is slow, it sometimes wont load webpages on the 1st 2nd or even 3rd try and takes ages to speed up when you turn the pc on.
Personally, I'd get rid mate. Go back to your previous ISP.

AHHHHHHH!! :bang: i've registered on their site, and i can't find how to 1. view how much i've download and how much download limit i have left and 2. use the free webhosting. every time i click on either it asks me to change passwords :bang: :bang: :bang:  worst designed site ever!
