Tailgate clicking when central locking used

Hi, it's been a while since I logged in.

My Ulysse's has been fine, but today as I left my car, opening the drivers door, the tailgate started clicking.

I locked the car, but remembering to get some stuff out, as I opened the car with the central locking the tailgate started clicking again.

If the tailgate is down, the handle will not operate the door, so you have to use the central locking to open the tailgate . . . . what's gone wrong?
