Hi all , I know the Punto t-jet has an automatic tensioner on the aux belt , im after changing the belt , has anyone changed one ??? If so , how is it done , many thanks , Dave

The tensioner is simply spring loaded, you'd have to 'loosen' it and lock it in 'relax' position; there is even a tool available from Fiat to do this !
Then remove the belt and slip the new one in, release the tensioner: done !

Thanks for your reply , do you know how to release the tension , do you use a crow bar to release the tension ?

You need to use a 13 mm ring spanner (a longer one, for torque).

From underneath the car (pull the dust/mud panels), put the spanner on the tensioner pull it down.. remove the belt, release the tensioner, thread the belt almost all the way around, pull the tensioner again and finish installing the belt.

Just to add to Auricks's excellent reply: you can lock the tensioner in place using the Fiat special tool or a self-made one (pin, drill bit, ...)

For me with the lock (I used small hex key) the tensioner was not loose enough, had to still hold it further with the spanner

The whole idea is to lose the tension and re-apply once the new belt is in place, the locker is just there to ease one man's (hand ?) job ..

So I put the spanner on the nut on the actual tensioner pulley ?? Cheers

Yep, use the spanner as a lever, opposite way of the load spring and its action against the belt, the thread is wind for that...
