Technical Syphoning Petrol

If the car is to be stored for a while it is a good idea to have a full tank of petrol. If not, condense might cause some starting problems when time comes.

A cigarette is not the best source of ignition, try using a zipo, the heat of the flame will cause the petrol to vaporise quickly and ignite.

Yeah... that's pretty obvious, if you throw something with flame into it, the petrol will ignite, but the theory I was testing was that a lit cigarette would not ignite the petrol.

Thats correct Dave its the vapours that are the dangerous one..I found that out at the tender age of 13 while scrounging around an old wreck while puffin on a fag ..the car had been dumped on the banks of our local river.. I flicked the fag at the tank which had been removed and the whole thing nearly launched into space.. I was a wayward youth and couldn't afford cigars..

My 17 year old son did something similar in the back garden a few months back, he was trying to burn three old fence panels and he ended up burning down almost the entire length of 6ft back fence and three huge mature fruit trees. We had to call the fire brigade. Was very embarrassing as I was in the front garden washing my car and I had left him to it. It was just a very small cup of petrol too.
