Just before I found out that my gearbox is knackered, I put £60 worth of petrol in my car. I cant afford to do this repair right now so I plan to tax and insure my sons car ( which currently sitting in the drive with a SORN) and just drive that for a month or two. Is there any way that I can get at least some of the petrol out of mine and into his? Thanks

So its that simple? I read somewhere that modern cars have some sort of anti theft grill in the petrol tank which is why I asked, I would imagine the fumes would get you before the taste lol.

The taste of petrol is the most disgusting horrid thing ever. I bought one of those hoses from Halfords but it wouldn't work so I decided to try sucking to see if that'll kick start it. Instead, I got a lung full of petrol fumes and a mouth full of petrol. Not even my £10 toothpaste got rid of the taste, it was absolutely rancid.

Never again.

I'd pay £60 just to NOT ever get a mouth full of the stuff again.

Petrol vapour is heavier than air so it stays in the bottom of your lungs.

Could try standing on you head for a while.

Standing on ones head really doesnt solve the problem so do it the PNL way..

SMOKE A FAG..

Years ago, I threw a lit cigarette into a tray of petrol just to test the theory.

The cigarette was extinguished and the petrol did not catch fire. (couldn't smoke the rest of the cigarette though) :(

DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME BOYS AND GIRLS

(Well...not in the middle of the living room anyway)

Petrol vapour burns at an explosive rate. Liquid petrol has to be vapourised before it will burn.

Thats correct Dave its the vapours that are the dangerous one..I found that out at the tender age of 13 while scrounging around an old wreck while puffin on a fag ..the car had been dumped on the banks of our local river.. I flicked the fag at the tank which had been removed and the whole thing nearly launched into space.. I was a wayward youth and couldn't afford cigars..

There would have been petrol vapour coming from the tray that the cigarette had to pass through before getting to the liquid petrol.

Not sure it applies to all stilo models ,but on my sons 2003 abarth , you cannot pass a tube down the filler pipe. The only way im aware of to empty the fuel tank is to remove the fuel pump and syphon from there.
