Ive fitted a new Alpine headunit today all is fine except all my settings are erased when I turn the ignition off. It also does not come back on when I turn the ignition back on (The standard stereo did) Ive tried swapping the red lead around but it didn't do a thing

Any other ideas?

Thanks.

The red wire of the ISO should be an ignition power feed, the yellow wire should be a continuous power feed :)

Whats happening by the sound of things is the yellow power is also connected to the ignition power feed, maybe the red is connected to the continous 12v? so switch the wires around and all should be well. Double check all the connections before with a multimeter tho :)

Yeah forgot to mention that bit, was late last nite.

The Remote Wire (Usually Yellow) needs to be on a permanent power source, should be a cable for that around somewhere.

Had a similar problem in my mates Alfa Romeo: had two power feeds at the back, or at least it had two red wires, when I hooked it up it worked, he came back the next day and said it wasn't switching on. Everything looked the same but he failed to mention he was tried something and swapped the wires over.

Not a Promblem in me Tipo as the Radio can stay on even when the Ignition Key is Removed.

Hope this makes more sense now :)

Trancendental- thanks alot, I logged on this morning saw your post and did it when I got to work. The yellow lead needed to be plugged into a permenant power source. It works fine now (y)

And cheers Luke for the extra info :)

Its only 4x50 watt (not 4x60) so wouldn't think it needs its own power lead. But it costs more than yours Liam :nerner:

Overall the units ok but theres no direct control over bass/treble or loudness. So there seems to be less bass than the standard unit  Mid and treble sound brill but on the box it says 'Bass engine' - yeah whatever. Gonna have to get a sub/amp now  lol. All the X-over and loads of equalizers complicate things too

4x50w eh? Thats for girls!

You sure, push the rotary encoder (the big silver knob, Alpine call it a rotary encoder) in and you will get access to a few settings.

Using that and your menu button should get you all the things you need, plus you can adjust different frequencies of bass and treble so there is pretty much infinite control.

I have absolutely no control over the bass/treble at all, when I press the rotary encoder it comes up with fader/balance, sub woofer control (I dont have one), and this thing called 'defeat' All I can do is set one of the 100 equalizers it has :shakehead So I have it on the rock preset. The bass is pathetic. Any normal headunit would have this control :(

Ive just set up the 'Time correction' for each speaker, and after this the display has gone on some sort of a power save mode- like a mobile phone. It comes on after pressing a button and turns off after a second of leaving it alone.

Disappointing  :(

From the look of the front panel, yours looks even more complicated....! Id send it back and get a Sony, which im used to and they definately have the bass control!

The manual has explained most things, but not about displays turning themselves off or how to get to this non-existant or secret bass control lol. Anyway enough of me moaning. I think the best idea would be to chuck it out of the window :)

...........Or get used to the damn thing before slagging it off

Hold your function button in to retrieve the normal display mode.

Erm, the whole thing seems to revolve around this glide touch bar, sounds fancy and cool to me.

Page 18 of your manual tell you what to do, it's kinda like setting up an old complicated hi-fi with all the slider buttons, pump the right ones up for bass and adjust the treble to suit.

Either choose the 5 band or the 7 band eq and get going, basically trail and error however I would liek you swear at it for a while too.

Good luck.

Liam

Thanks for the advice :) Went for a play and found a Media Expander and when I turned this thing on, an ace thing happened! Ive got bass :D I think its like a Loudness setting, but it sounds pretty nice now.

Ive tried the custom EQ but it doesnt sound as good as the rock preset. The Glidetouch is tricky to start with and you cant go scrolling through menus when driving. But it makes basic things like skipping track/changing radio stations/changing sources alot easier whilst driving.

Im gonna go and try holding the function button down to get my display back!

Cheers

*Yes!! It worked* Just remembered about the Blackout mode and I must have put it on :bang:

Great headunits these Alpines........lol (Yeah I know, im an idiot)

No worries Dave, I reset my unit a few times during installation and it reset the MX and I thought I was going deaf for a while until I realised it was off.

Once you get used to them you'll wonder why you never got one ages ago.
