So back to basics!!

I am eventually getting round to clearing out the oil "filter" and replace the seal. To do that I know I need to remove the rear apron and support the engine.

Question is...where/how do you support the engine? Under the sump? Is that strong enough?

Thanks guys (and gals)

Andrew

Whilst it is a little bit fiddly, you can remove/refit the oil-filter cover with the rear cross-member in situ. It is a lot easier with the engine cover removed. When cleaning out the cover, don't forget to remove the gunge from the pulley. Take care not to let any of the gunge go back into the oil system. The gunge will look like, and feel like, rubber, but I assure you the only rubber in that area is the big '0' ring seal. Cleaning-wise, start with the cover and then you will get an idea of what you are trying to remove.

OK thanks Mr Hobbler.

I'll try it in situ. I should have asked but do I need to drain the oil first or can I just top up for any that may escape? I replaced the oil not long ago so would rather not renew it all again.

Some oil will escape (not a lot) when you remove the filter cover, so have something under it to catch it. Oil is a bit like blood---a little seems to spread over a bid area!
