a superchip is remmaping the ECU to not quite factory settings giving u about 10% extra bhp on petrol cars, turbo cars about 40% and diesel about 25% i do belive not accurate just off the top of me head!

Re: Re: superchip?

Not quite, you might get 5% but usually less. Anyone quoting 10% on a non turbo car is usually a liar.

Re: Re: Re: Re: superchip?

Firstly a chip is not remapping. It is a set of modified data pre written to a chip that you then open your ECU open and replace the original with - and then pray you havent completely destroyed the ECU in the process, if you did it yourself!
Secondly the output from superchips is 6 - 10 bhp across the range.
However it is a compenet change and not as good as a remap (yes I would say that!) For example they do a chip fo rthe Alfa 156 to take it from 136 to 171bhp and that costs £511. We take it to 195bhp for £375 :) and we can reverse completely without changing any compneents or voiding any warranty.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: superchip?

What I forgot to add was go for it if you can afford it and your cannot be remapped - its all gain after all!
We might do something with chips in the future, but not right now as we want to look forward with technology not back.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: superchip?

Chip, remap, you change the ignition map with either method :) Just one requires screwdrivers and soldering irons!

A proper tuneup would need a rolling road to map it exactly to your car (worth 1-2BHP maybe) as all chips/remaps are based on an average for that model of car/engine.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: superchip?

assumeing it can't be done and i know i am gonna sound like a fool a little here but i gotta ask.

if you had the superchip installed AND then had the ecu remap would that shag the ecu ? or would it give you warp speed, lol

i am assumeing it can't be done otherwise more would have done it :)

ps. nige if u did the chip method with rolling road then i would be one of your first customers :) my 1.4 needs a boost

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: superchip?

The chips installed by superchips and the like are read only, you can't come along and reprogram them again.

If they were writable and you did a nige remap it would overwrite the superchip values and basically delete it.

I'm sure someone does a chip for the 1.4, its a monotronic and easily taken to bits.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: superchip?

Bahney, go and see Superchips, they will do one for you on a rolling road and they are a good company. We just aren't into it because of the overheads and I have done my time with circuit boards and testing to see whether the soldering iron is hot yet on my tongue - lol!
I think the 6bhp chip they refer to is the one for the 1.4 - I cant see it being for the 1.6 or 1.8, but I am intrigued how they install it on the Bravo HGT unless thats for the HGT 147. I now you can openup and chip the Coupe ECU as we have one, and I know you cant open up the HGT 155 ECU becuase I HAD one!
Why dont you get in contact with them....

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: superchip?

i will give em a shout mate :) thanks for the help.

think i might wait untill i get my fast road cams and de cat pipe that way when it is rolling road tunned it will be tunned to the best the engine can get :)

can't do anything else, lol possably bolt on a f14 jet engine :p but that is a bit ott :) although i am sure if it were possable ian would bolt it to his 1.2, lol

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: superchip?

Which cam are you getting? I knew a 1.4 with a kent (I think) cam and a superchip and it put out just over 100BHP.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: superchip?

what price range are the cams?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: superchip?

Had my HGT rolling roaded b4 and after the superchip and got an extra 6 bhp out of it!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: superchip?

well i have 2 wedding's my 21st my dads 50th all in the next 2 months :p so i am larry flint but come june/july i will be putting a little more grunt under the bonnet.

the Bariani & Colombo cam's were what i was planning i was under the impression that there were no others for the 1.4 so i will look into that :)

but with teh superchip, fast road cams, ss exhaust de cat pipe, induction kit i am hopeing for 100bhp as soon as i hit 100 i will be happy :)

if i get 99 then i will be completly gutted, lol

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: superchip?

100 easy. Ring kent and piper as they USED to do 1.4 cams. You might have to send yours away for regrinding but it will cost ALOT less than a C&B. Even though the 1.4 only has 1 cam C&B still want a small fortune.

A regrind is sub £200 and the cam is as good as new after.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: superchip?

And how much did that cost inc the RR if you dont mind me asking!?!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: superchip?

Thanks for the info tom, i will pick your brain nearer the time if that is ok ? i want to get the other stuff i am doing to my car done first before i start concentrateing on the next phase, lol

but the foad cams and the superchip are defenatly on the cards as is a de cat pipe, i should get the de cat at the end of this month.

for sub £200 it is a very very worthwile mod. thanks i never realised i could get them that cheap.

100bhp in a 1.4 :) brum brum...watch out ian i will be catching your lichen green monsta soon :)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: superchip?

Why dont you just buy a 1.6 Bravo if you want 100BHP. Its dead money in a bravo if you try to make a 1.4 go faster and you could prob buy two bravo's for the price of all this BHP you want from a 1.4.

Plus the insurance will bite you in the arse. Plus decat a pipe and your cars not road worthy, since it'll fail its MOT.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: superchip?

decat pipe failure on mot isnt true, i read some where some 1 had 1 on a 1.2 and it past emissions test. dont think the 1.6 will but it aint a certian failure.
