Just browsing around Ebay and came across a supercharger kit for the 1.4 engine in the 100hp (wont post the link just in case it breaks rules)

Claims of an extra 50hp (with exhaust mod too)

Tempting but it's £2800! :(

Bet it sounds awesome thou

(sorry if its a repost of someone else)

If you want to see the kit in action check youtube.
They fitted one on a Punto 1.4 16v and one on a 500 1.4 16v.
Search on "panda 100hp -terra".
Then you will get around 93 results. If you don't use the -terra thing you will search a lot. You will get 300 results.

I got this e-mail from JCR

Hi Andy,

We currently offer a Supercharger upgrade for the 1.4 16V engine, which the Panda 100HP, Fiat 500 and Fiat Grande Punto all use. It boosts the power to around 150bhp with a sports exhaust as well. We currently offer it for around £2700 +VAT. This includes fitting. We havent had anyone order the Panda upgrade so it would take a couple of days to customise the fixtures etc. We also plan to develop a Turbocharger Kit as well but have not started that as we are finalising the Supercharger kit to fit the range of engines Fiat supply.

Regards

I wouldn't want to be the first customer but it would be interesting to know what it's like (both performance and quality of mapping/conversion)

The trouble is you have to look at additional costs. Like upgrading brakes, are the suspenders up to it? Also you'll no doubt want to change the air filter and exhaust, it all adds to the cost.

And then there is the question of durability to think about too.

I'm just trying my best to shut it out of my mind, at least until the warranty runs out in a couple of years. Gives them enough time and guinea pigs to get it all perfect too :D (and me to scramble the funds together :p)

I'd only really be particularly worried about the durability and driveability (i.e. calibration). Getting those right would be pretty much getting what you paid for (albeit you might have to spend a bit on the other things if you felt they really let the car down) and being something either unpleasant to drive due to hesitation etc or even worse potentially much more expensive. If it's warrantied (including the engine) and you can drive a similar conversion on another car then the concerns would definitely ease a little.

Don't forget the downsides of worse mpg, difficult resale and a big chunk of money you ain't never getting back!

At the end of the day it would be nice to have a Panda 150hp, but it's a whole lot easier on the bank balance, sanity and your relationship if you just go and buy a car built to go faster in the first place.

DING. (I totally agree). Especially so when you've got the 500 Abarth coming out.

I'd prefer a turbo conversion. i wonder what figure the 150hp is weither is wheel horse power of flywheel horse power and weither it take into count the supercharger drag. I'd also like to know what they do regarding fuelling (new injectors, piggy back ECU, remap etc).

I'd also be dubious about engine life after aparantly it doesn't take much to ruin the bottom end on these engines. Davethetrike supercharged a 1242cc 16v engine and ran into alsorts of problems he needed a copper headgasket I believe.

I spoke to them yesterday and they said that:

The supercharger kit is fully developed and ready to fit.

They have not as yet mapped the Panda ECU but feel no problem with this after having cracked the 500 one so easily.

150bhp is a conservative estimate but a safe figure that the car will easily make.

The turbo conversion will be done shortly.

I enquired whether they could 'slip' a T-Jet engine into the Panda and then map the ecu but they do not feel it will fit :(

And after taking the Panda out on track the other day (i know i know i got bored waiting for the Evo to come back) it is seriously underpowered!
