Just fitted a new sump to my 2003 JTD 1.9 Diesel... I live in Mozambique where roads are not good..hit a bump and took the sump plug and piece of sump...Thank fully the warning light and message came on and I switched engine off immediately..I had covered about 100metres. Was amazed that I got a new one within a week from South Africa.. even though brought vehicle from UK.

No too much of a problem to fit... remove three bolts holding exhaust, and the bolts holding the exhaust bracket to the sump. (Lots of WD40 applied beforehand) Then undo torque bolts (2 sizes), remove 10mm bolt holding dip stick..and then remove oil level sensor 19mm ( I didn't do this, at first and nearly finished the sensor!). Four other engine mounting bolts also need removing. I then prized the sump down (sealant.no gasket) and had to undo the front oil strainer bolt and slacken the rear to release the sump completely.

I put the new sump on in reverse order...having applied some Fiat sealant to the back and side part of the cylinder block..not to front edge so as to avoid catching the 11m spanner I used to tighten the strainer back into place. Then apllyed sealant and bolted tight. Fitted other bolts....started engine and to great relief sounded just as it did before!

Hi, I have to do my wife's 04 Multipla sump. Can you tell me where did you get the sealant from? Can a proper gasket be used instead? The sealant seems hellish expensive from the agents and they want to charge 5 hrs to change sealant. Seems more like a 1 hr job for a monkey like me, probably less for those guys who have done it plenty of times.

with the amount of oil that it is leaking, it will take 27 years (with oil saved)to pay for them to do the job.

Is there a specific torque for the sump bolts?

Thanks for any help.
