Subwoofer 'bars'

One quick question - Can anyone point me in the direction of a shop or online dealer who might be able to supply me with a couple of chrome bars to protect my subwoofer cone a bit? They're generally in a pair. Usually seen on prebuilt subs, but I'd like to add a couple to my box, just can't find any for sale.

im not sure what you mean but if they are just plain bars with brakets, try a hardware shop or B&Q.

They're basically a 2 bar speaker grill, but yea a DIY store will prob stock something that will do the job

The 'bar' is the bit offering the cone some protection - also looks smart.

Its for a 12" sub. Might get the chance to pop to B&Q this afternoon, a browse through the bathroom stuff might turn something up.

1 thing you must be careful of - make sure your sub isnt a high escursion (SP) one. If it is, you need to make sure you leave a big enough gap for the cone to come out as the the high ex ones come out pretty far...

Just as a matter of intrest is there any other form of protection against the front of the subs, Lookily mine dont pop out to far, but this is my install, and wonder when i put stuff on the front shelf, how can I protect the subs ?

Your best bet probably is to get a couple of speaker grills, that would solve the problem.

OR, you can get a thin perspex panel wide and high enough to match the face of both boxes, then attach it to a couple of legs bout 3/4 inch long. The perspex panel doesnt have to be square, you can make it any whacky shape so long as it spans the width of the boxes. Also with it being perspex its clear so you can still see the cones, but also its flexible so will flex with the bass (hopefully wont vibrate if you use rubber gromets on the fixings and leave a gap between the shelf)

i got a round 10" perspex sub protector from www.autoacoustics.com

i would of made one myself, but didnt get round to it in the end

lukes idea sounds good, i was gonna suggest a strip of perspex about 3" high if you dont wanna cover the whole area, but you would still have to be careful cause anything higher could come in contact with the cone

Yeah speaker Grills would mess it up a little I guess,

I have a big ass sheet of perspex, only thing is might not come up transparant as its been outside behinde the she for a while. might change it all about soon
