Hi.
I have a very bad corrosion in front subframe. It is not reperable as mechanic says.
Is there any way to replace subframe? How to start to deal with it? Its 2000 (X plate) MH Ducato 14 TDi LWB 2.8cc

I struggle with registration plates. They are somewhat meaningless for dating a motorhome, which may have conversion and sales delays leading to year of registration being 2 years later than manufacture. From before 2000 upto 2002, the vehicle will be an x230 model. Check the VIN which should have the form ZFA230.........
The x244 replaced the x230 in 2002, and was manufactured until 2006. Described as a facelift version of the x230, I am thinking that the major body parts including to subframe may be identical. IF I am correct, this will widen the search range, and perhaps result in a more reuseable part being located.
There’s a lot of interchangeability on the 1994-2000 Ducato, even later ones up until 2006 will fit the earlier ones. My 1996 2.5d subframe was rotten, turns out a 2006 2.0 HDi one was identical so just do a bit of research like I did and found an interchangeability reference chart
Ps I did a feature on this on March 9,2023 on this forum.
There’s two distinct subframe types, the early one that has the larger bolt fitting and a ‘flat’ rear edge and the later one which has the ‘angled’ rear edge and smaller bolts-the later type will not fit the earlier type and vice versa. A look underneath will quickly show what is fitted. Commercial vehicle scrapyards are the best bet for a replacement, normally the subframes are covered in oil and don’t rust much unlike our motorhomes that sit and hold damp . Expect to pay £100-250 for a decent one.
