Hey guys, im going to buy 2 12inch alpine type R subs and make a build.

Im not sure whether to port the box`s or seal them?
At the moment i have 2 10inch kenwoods which are ported and they are very punchy.
I listen to most things, mainly fast dance/trance and RnB/hip hop stuff.

They will be powered by the vibe blackbox 3 amp.

I cant even find how much cubic space these subs need: http://caraudiosecurity.com/catalog/product_info.php+cPath+60_64_113+products_id+532

Anybody got any ideas whether they prefer sealed or ported and how big the box`s need to be?

Cheers guys

Dan.

i would suggest buying a premade sub box and then moulding around that for your build - makes it all alot easier id say!

Yer mate, i just had a look on the site and its only 25 squid more for premade carpetted box`s.
So il go for that.

Cheers

As nick stated its a lot easier buying pre-made boxes and building around that.

My build actually has 2 carpeted boxes behind all the blue stuff. Its basically one piece of mdf with holes cut in and nailed to the front of the 2 sub boxes

trust me you don't want to make your own box its an absolute pig. Almost finished but still need to carpet it, not looking forward to that. If i did it again though i would either buy a bouble box or do what wimmy did!!!!!!!!
learn from others mistakes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good idea guys, i like the idea that Wimmy suggested about replacing the front. Il do that.

if i were you i would have a go, it's only a wooden box at the end of the day, if you get it wrong try again, i did. an 8' x 4' sheet of 3/4" mdf from b&q is about £18 so not as if your going to lose anything and theres enough there for 2 or 3 go's.

There will be a volume given with the sub when you buy it, sealed is the easiest box to get right.

Here's my first attempt that looked nice but i got it wrong sound wise,

and my second attempt that sounds quite good;

as i see it if you don't try it you won't learn!

yer must say your 2nd attempt does look nice, the progress piccys you did were interesting.

Im making the build throughout the year as my A-level project. So its not like i will run out of time and i get the materials at discount prices so its all good.
I dont want to end up with a **** sounding system though so i will probably do what Wimmy suggested and build around the existing box`s.

Cheers again though

Dan.
