Anyone know a good product for getting rid of scuff marks that show on body paint? I noticed them when I was first looking at my car at the dealership. Some yahoo must have dragged their shoes against the paint underneath the driver's side door. Never thought they'd be so hard to get off....

I had some on my door sills when I got my car. I just found a bit of regular polish removed them with minimal effort. Have you tried any kind of polish?

Do you mean wax? I've tried a couple different kinds and it seems to make no difference. I'll have a look at the hardware store this week and see what else I can find....

I mean a product like Autoglym Super Resin Polish or Mer Ultimate Polish (which is what I used).

Autoglym Super Resin Polish - NEW FORMULA - 1L: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike

Mer MM1L 1L Ultimate Polish: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike

The Autoglym is also a really good polish to use regularly on your car. I don't really rate the Mer polish that well but it removed the scuff marks on my door sills. Not sure if these products are available in Canada? You may find them on your Amazon or a good car / hardware store.

The difference with Polish and Wax is that polish will clean (cut) and to a certain degree restore paintwork depending on the type whereas wax will protect the polished surface after it has been polished to maximise the life of the polished surface.

Ok, great, thanks. My bf is pretty sure he's seen the Autoglym around here, so I'll give that a try.

Thanks again! Gotta keep my baby lookin' good. :D

Well, I wound up buying the Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover thinking that would be the best bet. Says it "rapidly removes tar, adhesive, grease, wax, oil and silicone"...alas, no luck. It did remove the smallest scuff mark, and might have slightly diminished the other 3 but they're still quite visible. I think I did the application process about 15 times.

Feeling a little bummed.

Yay! Scuff marks are GONE! I wound up going back to the store and picking up a bottle of the Autoglym super resin polish and it completely removed the scuff marks after two applications.

Should have just taken your advice the first time austenw90. :worship:

It also works well on black cars (assuming thats your in your sig) since its "filler" heavy so will hide/ remove any minor swirls.......... Avoid getting it on any black textured trim..... If you do buff off what you can then remove the rest using Autoglyms fast glass and a microfibre cloth with plenty of rubbing...

If its dusting your using too much just use a very small amount on a damp applicator pad

Good to know, thanks.

Yup, that's my car in the pic. Funny you should mention about filling light swirls/scratches because I just noticed a bunch at waist-height on my driver's door when I was washing it(again) today. My bf thinks its from peoples' buttons/zippers rubbing up against the door when they lean in to peer inside the car. Grrrrr. Had to fill them in with a bit of wax today.

So one last question. When I use that polish should I always follow it with a coat of wax? When I bought the car, as part of the warranty package I got, the dealership had some kind of permanent wax put on the car. Just wondering if the polish would strip some of that off where I use it.

I never paid much attention to this kind of stuff before, so apologies if it's a stupid question....

If you've had a paint guard applied then you won't need to polish the car for the life of the guard product, however I'm not sure how you would go about getting rid of scratches with that stuff applied.

On my previous car I had stuff called Supagard applied (not out of choice, it already had it) and it said only to use their "special" products. I never did and never noticed a difference. I used to polish it and wax it like normal.

Generally these permanant products have a life span and after a few years, possible 3 they will have disappeared anyway.

Scratch-X is good, but for the real tough stuff try Meguiar's ULTIMATE COMPOUND. I got a tough scratch out of my Abarth chrome tailpipe with it, 100 percent, and that's really a difficult achievement.

The turtle wax I used to fill in those door scratches worked ok. Mind you, they were very fine scratches. I'm not sure what the lifespan of the paint guard is, it was just part of a protection package I got. I was really more interested in the undercoating and interior leather protection.

Thanks again for the advice, guys....
