It's my first time visiting the forum and from what I can see it's a great source of information.

My problem, If it is one as I can't see it being an isolated problem if it really is a problem is that !

I bought my 2001 (X) Morea Weekend 100 1.6 16V last saturday and noticed that both the front drvers and passengers door stay's were not connected to the pillar, The pin on one side had snapped and the one on the other side is missing, got 2 new pins and tried to pull the stays out of the doors but they were really stiff and the only thing that moved was the screwdriver, Now are they prone to seizing up or is it just an isolated incident ??, My next step will be to remove them from the door and give them a good clean, By nature they should offer resistance but I didn't think they offered that much.

Has anyone changed a door and can say whether they had problems reconnecting the stays ??.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Peter

Hi Peter and welcome to the forum. :D

My drivers door stay pin snapped last week and the stay eventually dissapeared into the door. :( The stay seemed quite free before it went into the door though.

Not had the chance to look at fixing it yet but i'll let you know if I get round to it in the near future.

Good luck.

Ok, the good news is I fixed it and the C pin only cost £1.05 from the Fiat parts centre.

The lever in the door is incredibly difficult to pull out. I ended up with a screwdriver through the hole in the lever and one end of a ring spanner with a big screwdriver through the other end of the spanner and wedged under the dash. Then it was a rather comical task of holding everything together while I used the door as a lever. The door stay finally came out with a frightenly loud bang, but it works great now the new pin is in.

Thanks for the help Polecat, I will do my door stays this weekend, I feel a lot more confident now I know how to tackle it and in the knowledge that they are not stuck, only extremely difficult to pull out.

Thanks a lot

Regards

Peter.

I tried to do the door stays at the weekend, I got them out of the door by wrapping a piece of 6mm wire around the end of the door stay and then closed the door slightly and wrapped the other end of the wire round the bracket on the pillar, I Opened the door and sure enough there was a loud bang and the door stay came out, Unfortunately, the pins supplied by the local motor factors fell straight through the hole !!. My car went into continental Cars yesterday for a complete belt change and service, I mentioned the pins to them and they said that If they had the pins then they would refit the stays for me, but 'It won't be cheap' he said the only way to do them was to remove the doors !!, I objected strongly and he went to get the mechanic who said that if he had the pins then he would fit them for me, it only takes five minutes !!. If I hadn't known I would have accepted a quote for unnecessary work and had a bill for god knows how much.

I suppose that the guy on the service desk isn't a mechanic so he cannot know everything, I told them that under no circumstances were they to carry out any additional works without my consent, I now live in fear of collecting the car this friday.

Good News, Got car back from continental cars on friday, They have done an excellent job, They carried out the complete belt change and the interim service, checked oil in gearbox and axle, new oil and filter, topped up sereenwash, antifreeze etc. They also did the door stays and charged £24. Total bill was for £632.00, Origional quote without door stays and sundries was £570.20 so not too bad.

Peter
