Help please! My left rear brake drum will not come off (126 hubs). All nuts have been removed and the parking brake is off. The drum spins freely so I don't think the shoes are sticking but I cannot get it off the hub.

I've tried WD-40, hitting it with a mallet, and pulling with all I'm worth. There is so little area to grab so it's tough to get a solid grip on the drum.

Any other advice? Makeshift puller perhaps?

Thank you!

What often happens is that a small ridge forms at the edge of the drum braking surface partly due to brake drum wear and a little corrosion as that small rim is not in contact with the brake shoe. Assuming the two mounting bolts are removed if you can get the drum to rock a little you can try banging the drum with a mallet from side to side to get the brake shoes to sit back a little on the self adjusters. Also the two holes that the mounting bolts go through are tapped and if you have suitable size bolts you can screw them in to press against the hub to force it away from the hub combined with a little mallet tapping. I have a feeling that the required bolts may be an odd size and M9 X 1.25 comes to mind but not sure. I need to check.

Toshi, thank you! I had some old bolts that fit into the drum. I was able to use them to press out the drum without issue. Why didn't I think of this earlier?

Good to hear that it al worked out. I did check the thread and it is M9 X 1.25, a thread size that is not used anywhere on 500s or 126s. It seems to be quite a common size on a lot of German cars. If you are going to refit those drums it is a good idea to remove that lip and even give them a little chamfer to prevent future problems :)
