anybody got any idea what this noise is ?
from start up and when running everything is fine .. but occasionaly i can hear a ticking:bang: .. and it seems to speed up with the revs
it sounds like its coming from somewhere inside the drivers wing? i dont think its tappets ..its definitly around the drivers area,in or around the wing
any body heard of this noise before?
any help is much appreciated:D

My 1.4 did that and it turned out to be something with the brakes. was told at the time it was a safety mechanism to warn you your brakes where worn, but im not sure that was entirely true

its a 1.4s 12v
it does it at rest, sounds like its just behind the firewal, about the height of the brake servo ,
sounds like its inside the dash
its intermittent
and increases as you rev it ,then sometimes it will stop, other times itll slow back down when u back of the revs
sounds like tappets, but a bit higher pitched, and i listened to tappets, its not the noise!
i think it could be a heater fan or something?
or just something catching occasionaly behind the dash?

Eliminate the heater fan by swithching it off.

It can be an electrovalve of the fuel recirculation system. It may make a clicking noise and is located in the wing behind the plastic cover of the wheel well.

i think hellcat's idea that its belt related is most likely (could be aux or timing belt).

have you had your head in the engine bay yet? have a good listen.

:yeahthat: - but you were talking about ticking noise...

Any louder noise can be a bearing or pulley. I had my timing replaced quite recently (second time - after over 150 Kkm) as I thought it was the belt hitting the case.

Once on a lift the Fiat guy told me it is the aux belt pulley that makes this loud cracking/hitting noise. It was so worn I could feel it play by hand.

i dont think its either aux or timing belt..as these seem to be nice n tight, and the i can feel no play in either bearings ! i thing it may be this electrovalve thing that tomasso is on about..as when you put your ear against the wing..it sounds like its just behind it.. im 90 percent sure it isnt inside the engine bay itself .. as i spent about half hour stood there with head in engine bay ..
thanks for all your help so far(y)

i think tomasso means the fuel vapour cutoff solenoid. when the solenoid sticks it can make a clicking noise so its a good suggesiton, but i dont think it could change the rate of clicking with engine rpm. but its still definately something to check.
