I heard a strange sound from my Stilo 1.6 engine the other day, any idea what it might be caused by?
When I recorded this, I had just turned off the AC compressor to see if that was the culprit. But the lowered RPM only seemed to make the sound stronger. I tried to use my "amateur stetoscope" on the alternator, water pump, timing belt cover and AC compressor, but was unable to locate the source of the sound.
(The engine does run like clockwork, so there doesn't really seem to be anything wrong with it per se, but the Stilo's an old car now, so you never know when problems can show up from out of the blue.)
