Hi you will have 2 excuse me as this is my very first post and i know nowt about cars.....Well the problem is that i bought a tipo about 4 months ago and everything was running fine until one day i was just sat waiting for someone with the engine ticking over in neautral and all of a sudden the engines revs went up to about 3/4000......i panicked and switched it off. When i came to turn it on again after a few minutes it wouldnt start again it took about 10 tries to get it going.

It doesnt do this all the time just every few weeks and i have searched this problem all over the internet and i cant seem to find the ansewr has anyone got any ideas.

Cheers

i think you have a problem with the stepper motor, or a sensor on the single point throttle unit. it needs to go on a diagnostic machine to see what it has logged wrong. this is the best way to find out, because you could end up throwing money at it otherwise.:)

Cheers for that...any idea if this could be expensive or not?

not expensive really. if its the stepper, just fit a secondhand complete throttle housing. there are loads out in scrappys. £10 max + diagnostic.;)

Dude, you obviously don't have a 1.4
no, a 16v.
but any tipo can have problems. you just need to sort things out. sounds easy, but aint i know. once running right, they are nice cars.:)

But you see its worth the problems if you have a 16v, i'd be happy to have one of them and it break down occasionally, but a 1.4? its just another old average hatch, plus its italian

bravo HGT a fine car. the engine is silky smooth and pulls very well. later engines even better. suspension a bit soft, but thats easy to remedy. make sure cambelt and tensioner done recently as its a pain to do [about £480 from specialist]. some have aircon some dont. and leather seats cr*ppy and squeak for like mad. so avoid them. with suspension, wheels/tyres, K&N, and exhaust, would make a very nice car.(y)

Cool, cheers for the advise, i thought leather would be a good option but i may avoid if it sucks. At the minute its a toss up between this and an Ibiza cupra of similer age, the lack of a turbo kinda puts me off the cupra but it would be a ****e load cheaper to insure

the Ibiza cupra is a rollerskate of a car. fine for pressing along but never really relaxes.a fine drivers car, but its all or nothing. they make an awful motorway car. the bravo HGT also drives well but also relaxes with that wonderful engine note which is pretty unique to a small hatchback. feels almost special. infact iam rather smitten with them and seriously considering having one myself.:)

Cheers for that, think that has helped me make up my mind, ill just save a bit more for insurance and have a bit more fun with the car
