hi all,

car has been running fine for a while now happy to say, only one thing tho, when turnin on some corners an when i reverse from the front left wheel it sounds like a clunking noise!? does not sound healthy! could this be the bearings?

The CV (constant velocity) is a universal joint that allows the drive shaft to move with the suspension. There are 2 on each side, an inboard and outboard. The inboard is on the gearbox casing and rarely gives problems. The outboard is just behind the wheel bearing and on a FWD car has to flex left/right as well as up down.

If only the boot needs changing it could be around £40. If it needs the CV changing too it will cost more for the parts, labour should be around the same price.

As you can see a lot of moving parts - so having them cased in grease keeps them healthy and quiet. When they lose their grease they become noisey and eventually will fail.
