My Stilo multiwagon has self locked with the keys in the ignition for the second time in 2 months! Family and friends are getting a bit fed up as am I. Any thoughts on how to stop it out there. Cheers guys, oh and happy new year !!!!

Mine did that a few weeks ago, I had to smash a window to get in as I dont have a spare key. I have now replaced the glass AND bought a new battery.

isn't there a setting in the computer? I'm not sure I have the new bravo and I don't think it has a timeout to lock the doors

I hate to insult any ones intelligence but uh..
Why leave the keys in the ignition when you're out of the car? Might as well be handing the keys over to a thief on a silver platter! :nutter:

The self locking thing is as far as I know a standard security feature on loads of cars nowadays. I doubt there's an option to turn it off as it is actually quite useful on the security front not to mention stopping the local vandal kids from jumping in and tearing the insides out.
I never did catch those little sh**s.

Happy new year peeps :)

On my stilo jtd, it has the built in connect nav computer thing and on the options in the screen you can choose if you want te auto doors lock on or off. If you have a built in sat nav like I do then you will have that option.

i thought the self lock facility only kicks in once the car is moving. I think it self locking like it is is a fault.

Might be wrong tho as my wife always says

I don't remember what it says in the Stilo manual, but my experiences with the car itself suggest that if I unlock the car and do not open a door within a certain time (I think it may be one minute or so), then the doors will automatically lock. However, if I open a door before the timeout, then the doors will remain unlocked until I lock them manually. (One exception seems to be if the doors are unlocked and I press the unlock button on the key fob, in that case the car doesn't seem to remember that the doors were already unlocked and it will lock the doors if I don't open a door before the timeout.)

I think there is a fault here...
You can set the doors to lock when travelling over 5mph
If you unlock the car and DON'T open the doors the car will relock, but will not arm the alarm etc.
Often at work poss due to the wind or whatever my car alarm often goes off, so I jump out of the car and then "unlock it" and in about 30 seconds it locks itself, its never done that with the doors being opened though, then it stays unlocked until the keyfob is used again

if your determinded to leave the keys in the car, why not just wind the window down, when im working on the car or the car is in for MOT i always wind down the drivers window, i would rather the interiour get a little wet than have to smash a window.
In three stilos that ive owned ive yet had the car lock itself on me, but i wouldnt tempt fate at all.
Also another thing to bere in mind is that if the car gets stolen and the keys are in the ignition insurance WONT pay.

I had a Volvo that would do this and it was because if you unlocked it and and did nothing it would lock its sef again after 2 mins, however I had a fault with the drivers door electrics and the car did not know the door had been opened so if nothing else was operated it would lock itself if you opened any other door or stated it then you were OK.Check the interior light comes on when you open the drivers door.

In my case it was 7am dark and freezing cold, car was covered in ice. I started it and put the heater on, left it running while I went around the outside spraying de icer all over the windows - all of this while it was safely parked in my garden and not a soul around to steal it. Didnt enter my head that it would suddenly lock me out and I still think it may have been a fault. We have three Stilos here and we wont be making that mistake again. I could have done without that repair bill the week before Christmas.:(

Crikey I can imagine that! I thought that you had done what my cousin did a few months ago*

Sorry if I came accross a bit hard on you. Assumption is the mother of all funk ups after all!

*he pulled up on the side of the road and got out to chat to a friend but left it running. Some cretin just jumped in and had it away within a few seconds!
