Hi

a friend of mine asked to have a look at his stilo this aft as the car wouldn't start at all. Wouldn't even turn over. So I did a diag with my autocom but it didn't bring anything up so then plugged in my key programming machine that also does fualt reading with immob system.

It came back with an aerial fault. Does anybody know if these are paired with the ecu etc or? just wondering if i could try another immob aerial or if it would need a brand new 1 then have it coded to the car. I know this is the case with a lot of makes of car but i don't know a great deal about Fiat

thanks

Craig

Unless the car has the "EasyGo" keyless entry system, I assume by immo aerial you mean the induction loop fitted around the ignition barrel. It's just a coil of wire, so isn't paired with anything.

If the car does have the "EasyGo" option, there's about eight aerials for it dotted around the car.

The Stilo immobiliser does not cut out the starter motor so the car may have something other than an immobiliser fault.

no it doesn't have easygo. When i turn the ignition on all the instrument lights come on as normal but when trying to start it there's nothing at all, not even a click or anything

Flat, or insufficiently charged battery?
Battery +ve and earth cables and connections?
Starter motor solenoid cable from ignition switich to solenoid terminal 50?
Starter motor working?
What fault code(s) did your diagnostic equipment show?

it brought up P1687 but it cleared & didn't come back. No other faults logged

P1687 = Interruption of throttle body self learning or incorrect environmental parameters (plausibility)

It would suggest the throttle body relearn procedure has been started but not completed correctly or interupted during the procedure. This wouldn't prevent the car from starting though, just cause it to have an erratic idle.

Back to basics: battery, cables, starter motor etc.

yeh i found that info for the code with google & was hoping it would come back after clearing it so i'd have a base to start from but it didn't!
