Hi,

Has anyone out there done a ICE install on a Fiat Stilo 3dr 1.8 dynamic?

I'm looking to rig up a set of 6x9's on the rear shelf, install my 12" sub in the boot and replace the factory standard head unit with a new Kenwood lump.

First question I have is how can I remove the speaker grile off the speakers which are in the back seats on each side of the car? I was wanting to disconnect the speaker wire and extent to plug onto the 6x9's which I'll be installing on the back parcel shelf. Easiest option would be to run seperate from an amp in the boot but only have a two channel amp at the mo which is will be powering my sub bridged.

Second Question, Hasanyone remove the factory head unit yet, do I need special removal key's that are comonly used?

Last question, which is the best way to route the 12v cable from the car battery to the rear of the car? The sill's down the side of the seats is easy enough but where's the best place to thread the cable from the engine bay into the inside of the car?

Any help will be most appreciated :)

Bad news about removing the rear speakers. You have to take the panels off to get at the speakers as the grilles are fixed. The panels themselves remove quite easily (I've been told) but the catch is that you may have to remove your back seat to do this. You will almost certainly have to remove the back seat to get the panels back on again.

Can't help on the other questions I'm afraid.

What might help though - There are lots of CDs with Stilo technical and workshop information on for sale on EBay. One of these may help....

Cheers for the info 'rriggs'. I know, just found another thread in the 'Stilo' section about getting at the rear speakers. I only wanted to get at the speaker wire so I could extent it to the boot to connect to the 6x9's I'll be installing on the rear shelf. Think I'm going to give that a miss and just power the 6x9's from a 4 channel amp in the boot which will power my 12" sub at the same time. That way can still use the rear speakers but will be able to turn the bass more or less right down on the head unit as the Fossi Sub I have at the mo kicks some serious bass and probably all I'll need. Has the same set up in my old Corsa and with the head unit's bass setting at zero was able to tune the amp so all the bass I had was from the 12", was loud enough for me so think I'll do that. :)

Any idea's on ebay where's best to look for that CD? A link would be wicked or something I can put in the seach function to find them?

Cheers for your help

I just did a search for "Fiat Stilo" yesterday when looking to see what general stuff for the car might be available on there. Mostly what came up was Stilo model cars and these CDs.

If you just put in "Fiat Stilo" you won't go far wrong. ;)

PS - Just done a quick search myself and found this one:

Hope this helps

I dont know squat about stilos, but from an ICE point of view it would be more benificial to save your money from the 6x9's, or if youve already bought them, sell them. You dont want to start cutting your parcel shelf to bits do you? Get a 4 channet amp and get some good components for the front running from the amp and run the sub bridged from the remaining two channels. Ths would improve the sound ten-fold. Im not experienced in ICE but anyone who is will tell you that front speakers and a sub is the way to go. Rear speakers are rarely ever used in SQ (Sound Quality) installs.
Just my 2 bob worth! :)

Cheers for the info 'Sando', might have a point there:) I've already bought my 6x9'S over a year ago and won't be cutting the parcel shelf up. If I decide to stick them in with use a 12mm MDF board cut and shaped to size so it'll replce the parcel shelf which I can keep one side for when I sell the car in a few years.
For the time being I'm going to just rig the sub in the boot with my current amp and see how she sounds with that, will be replacing the head unit at the same time too (already bought over a year ago), not sure if the factory standard CD player has any pre-outs?

Just need to find out now how to remove the current standard head unit?

Any idea's anyone?

As I said, I know squat about Stilos but Im guessing that there are maybe four little holes around the edge of the Head Unit? These are the holes for the 'keys' that should come with the car, usually a bit different from the keys that you get with aftermarket head units. These usually just slot in and 'click' into place, releasing the head unit so you can pull it out. It could be different with these posh modern cars but my Girlfriends Ford Ka is just like that.

Also, if the head unit is a different size than a DIN shaped one (the industry standard) then an Autoleads facia adapter will be needed. This just allows the new head unit to fit into the dash properly. Also an Autoleads lead adapter will be neede so that you dont need to chop any wires etc...

Hope this helps

I've removed the head unit in mine just to plug a cd player into the back of it. I tried to remove the head unit with keys supplied with other Head Units but they don't work, they are too fat and too short and can mark the head unit.

I used a metal coat hanger cut into 8" lengths and it worked a treat.

I've put some Alpine SXS1757's in the front of mine, they are a very reasonably priced set of component speakers (£60) and it's made quite a difference even with the standard head unit.

hope this helps,
Damo.

Thanks everyone:)

'Damo8', you are right about the holes, they are very very narrow so will use the coat hanger tip, cheers for that. Also, Does the standard head unit have Pre-out's too if I wanted to just plug my leads in for the sub? I'm still awaiting delivery of my facia adaptor and was going to rig up the sub anyway until it arrives:p

Cheers again
