hi all...
Thinkng of swapping my punto hgt in for a stilo arbath and just wondered what people think of them? Are they quick..compared to a hgt and whats running costs like. I dont expect 60 to the gallon but are they reasonable.
Cheers for any response

Re: Stilo arbath

Hi mate,
They are reasonably quick but not astoundingly so. A remap and CDA airbox should give an extra 20bhp and make things a little better. Sort the suspension with some eibach springs.

Running costs are ok, the biggest factor is depreciation and fuel. Don't buy one new like I did! buy used and depreciation is ok. Fuel wise expect 17-20mpg around town and 28-30mpg on a run...at best. Buy a newish one 2nd hand and they make great value, lots of kit and good performance at a knock down price.

Sorry couldn't compare to an HGT I've not driven one but would imagine similar performance, higher top end speed maybe but won't feel as fast because of the vastly improved build quality of the Stilo compared with the Punto or Bravo.

Don't be put off by Selespeed semi-auto, great system.

Re: Stilo arbath

Hi there

I Changed my 53 HGT for a Stilo Abarth in July this year ( Manual one ).
Bought it brand new but got about 4000 off list price.
Not dissapointed at all ,the engines sweeter and feels a little faster.
The handling is not quite as sharp as the HGT but it's more comfortable.
no mods as want to keep warranty in tack. Just BP ultimate and a new Green Cotton Air filter, which smooths out the power a little.
I traded in my HGT ; bad mistake , would have got 1200 more privately !
Did drive the schumacher one which drives better than the HGT, but needed about 13500 for new one , not sure if I could live with the Red every day

Good Luck

Re: Stilo arbath

oops.....!
Forgot to say economy is about the same on a run ( HGT ) ,helps with Ultimate fuel though.
Probably a little worse around town.
Girlfriend driving , on a run back from Scotland got 34 MPG !!
I got 29 mpg. !
Keep it under 4000 rpm for economy , over that for fun !!
Did I mention the sound of the engine everytime you drive it ?!!(y)

My waranty is fine with mods, they will obviously only replace bits that are not directly affected by a particular mod. Like for example, if my shocks were to go doolally then Fiat would not fit the bill as I've lowered it with springs.
Bodywork has no affect on the waranty, at least I hope not  :D

Fiat really are quite reasonable with mods affecting the waranty, I spoke directly to the area manager a few months back and he was fine with it all as long as you take in mind what I said above :)

The Abarth is a fantastic car, I can't fault it, for the money you pay, there's nothing to touch it.

Re: Stilo arbath

I agree with Mark - my local service manager had no qualms with the mods I had done - even had quite a bit of warranty work done of the car, even though it was lowered and had a CDA on it (y)

Re: Stilo arbath

How fast are they? I had one for the day a few months back and felt it was about the same as my hgt altho maybe slightly faster mid range.Lovely smooth drive though. Im told that 0 to 62 is about 8.5 secs on my hgt...thats rubbish, my punto is a lot faster. I just want more than 8.5 if im running 2.4 ltrs;)

Re: Stilo arbath

Oh, you will get a lot more than 8.5 - I am running mid 7 to low 7s at the moment, possibly lower.

...and that has been proved against Ghost's Turbo Cinq, which runs at around 6.5 secs to 60 iirc - we are evenly matched to 70, then mine pulls away :)

Re: Stilo arbath

A Punto HGT tried to take me on the other day from a traffic light... was a good laugh actually. At the first light I gave him a bit of a head start and then went flying past him. At the second light, I just left him behind and didn't see him again...
I would say there is quite a big difference in performance between the Abarth and the HGT.

It's also the way it delivers that performance that is most impressive (y) How can a car be so two faced eh... Grrrr :D

It's not about 0-60 times, although they are fine IMO.

It gets slagged off by a few people, but in reality you have to own one to really appreciate the car to it's max, and when you do, you can secretly laugh at those that run it down, because they'll never have one and you know it's secrets ;)

100% correct mate.(y) Especially the selespeed model - you can either drive her gently and she purrs or you really boot it and she'll snarl and roar! Takes a lot of people by surprise.:D

just cant believe that for a 2.4 its over 8 seconds. How does the selespeed compare to the normal gearbox? Anyone got the posh computer thing in??? Any good??? Cheers for the replies chaps :worship:

It is under 8 seconds ;) BUT the 2.4 is amazing when it comes to midrange and overtaking....

I love the selespeed as well (y) real quick gear changes with it, and you can red line it as well.

Selespeed comes standard with the 7" screen...I will go and get a pic...

whats the posh computer thing?

that one lol. Looks well sexy. Is the normal gearbox the same as the selespeed off the mark or a little quicker? If i swap my hgt for an arbarth i really want to make sure i get the right one. Cheers

I'd say that the selespeed is better to drive faster. You have no worries about changing gear if you really want to boot it, just let it redline and it auto changes very fast without the need for all that extra work, it leaves me pinned to my seat everytime, in fact I have to close my eyes tight so the pressure don't force my eyeballs to implode :D

I'd like to see a manual abarth and a selespeed in a sprint race up to 130mph, I recon the selespeed would be consistantly faster due to eliminating driver error.
