In need of some advice.

2004 Stilo 2.4 semi-auto selespeed. When stopping car/slowing down gearbox jumps down into N and gets stuck there, can't go into R or change gears. After a few minutes of turning car on and off and messing with gearstick it comes back and works ok again for a little while. Has happened 4 times in the last two days leaving us stuck at traffic lights and in car parks. :eek:

There are no gearbox warnings coming up but when local indi plugged it in he said a selespeed pump error showed and it needs a new pump. However upon opening door pump seems to prime fine for about 10 seconds. Will it defo be the pump? Also if it is, is there no way of getting a pump on it's own as it seems it must be bought with the actuator too?

Car has also stalled once or twice showing a quick low oil pressure error, not sure if this could be related or yet another problem?

We've only had it 4 weeks. :(
 
Also if it is the pump then it may just be a matter of replacing the brushes.

Don't be too alarmed by the Selespeed. It is much more accessible to owner repair than the traditional slush box type. We have one of those on our Rav4 and I wouldn't attempt a repair on that.

After we spoke to our mechanic yesterday he said he needed to strip the engine to get at the pump. Quoted me 900 for pump and labour just not worth it.
 
Hi where are you??? I've got fiat software on my laptop and I know Alfa 147 & 156 selespeed systems inside out. I've replaced bushes in the pump before and I've got a s/hand pump as well
 
Hi panda we are Mansfield area. Its been to a gearbox specialist who has cleaned the connections and re calibrated it. Its working again. But iv got a feeling its temporary. What sort of price would you charge for a pump replacement.

There is no need to replace pump just few bits inside of it. Either is pump or accum...
 
But even replacing brushes is a diy job and I have no idea where to start.
 
It certainly does not sound like a 900GBP job. You need to find a garage happy to do the job.

For some reason fiat want 580 for the new pump alone. 3 hours labour and new oil amounts to 890. Where can I take it to have the pump reconed?
 
I'm going to find a local fiat specialist to have a look because I'm not sure it is the pump. Its priming on door opening then every 2 gear changes. It was taken by the dealer last week where they unplugged it all cleaned all connections and re calibrated the system. This seemed to work until yesterday when it slipped into N when selecting receese , it also got stuck in 1st for a brief moment. Its very intermittent.

How much would it be? The pump on my 2.4 is right at the back of the engine under the oil tank. Its not the one that's in the wheel arch. Still be done because the garages are saying it needs to be stripped to get at the pump. Thanks for the help.

Well to be honest, find someone with diagnostics and check for pressure, could be accum and that is an easy swap.
