Sorry to bother you again chaps, I'm still looking for a working second hand Air-con pump unit for the 2.4jtd beast.

Just a post to see if anyone has seen one recently, I really don't want to pay the £450 Fiat want for one....

Cheers

Darren

Yep!

The 2.4jtd is a very hard machine to find parts for.
Just phoned all the salvage breakers on auto trader, and any others I can find in Yahoo.

Sooo.. If anyone knows of a 2.4jtd marea/alfa 156 going to the scrappers give us a shout :D

Cheers chaps

Bristol mate, But willing to travel anywhere to get it really.

I don't want the pump seizing up and snapping the belt, just had the cambelt done etc and running well apart from the damn noise from the pump!

I've tried chap.

Been emailing people for about 3 months now.

At the moment I am ringing round Alfa specialist parts companies to see if by a long shot they will be cheaper than the Fiat charge...

I can get one for £350 from a parts company but was hoping for a workign second hand one for say... £70!

I'm skint and after spending £500 getting clutch and cambelt done the missus is getting annoyed with the car taking more money than her!

cheers for the replies tho guys

try www.alfaowner.com

they have a cars for sale section where cars being broken will be and also a parts section and a wanted section

Anything With Tits or Wheels Will Cost You MONEY!!

@Ash

I would mate but the bearings are gone on the clutch and will eventually seize up causing the belt to drag and then break, can't afford an engine rebuild on a 2.4jtd.
:)

@Andy................. YOU ARE A SUPERSTAR!

Phoned the guy and he has one, in working order, delivered thrusday for the grand total of......... £62!!!

Thanks for the link, I have been searching for ages, saves the £400 bill from fiat.

All I have to do now is attach it on the weekend, fire the beast up and get her re-gassed!

(I am right in thinking that when the compressor is removed you will need to re-gas it?)

Thanks for all the replies chaps, and I will get my piccy updated once I have renewed my membership :)

Thanks!!

Darren

Thats a thing,

found a product called 'ezcharge'

Buy it from Hellfrauds, comes in a can, apparently has the gas, oil and leak sealer all in one which connects straight to the compressor.

Any ideas if this works as it's cheaper than the garage and says it works on the tin... :-s

thanks again Andy

shows what the boo is all about!

These aircon charge kits from Halfords are top ups only. Not to refill or regas your aircon from empty. You'll need a proper aircon specialist regas approx £50 they put the correct amount of refrigderant and oil. If you have small leak or over afew years your aircon system looses its gases through its seals etc. You use the ezcharge or the one i have Measure and Charge which comes with a guage.

cheers chap, thought I was gonna get a cheaper diy kit then, how am I ment to fit the aircon compressor and then get it to a garage though?

I can't start the car without the oil in it, or is the oil easy enough to do myself?

Cheers

I don't think you understand the concept how the pump works.

The pulley on the aircon pump freely spins with the belt. The Aircon pump still isn't working until the clutch engages within the pump and then the centre of the pulley begins to spin with the pulley. It engages and disengages every minute or so. Its clearly visible if you look at the side of the pulley with the engine on and the aircon on.

Driving your car without any aircon gas is fine. No harm done. Did you know If the pressure within the aircon system drops to a certain PSi due to lack of refridgerant the aircon pump electronically shuts itself off anyway and wont work till the correct amout of refridgerant is put back in, it stops the system running dry which would cause problems to the aircon system.

So once fitted you can drive your car to a garage to get it regas'd with no problems whatsoever.

Cheers Chap,

all making sense now.

The compressor on mine at the moment it grinding all the time weathe the aircon is switched on or off.

was told it was the bearings inside, someone else said it was the clutch.

Have bought the second hand one and should be here for the weekend.

soooo....

As long as I attach all the pipes and belt, I can drive the car as long as I do not turn the air-con on insdie the car?!?

That sounds right because I guess when the air-con is not active it is just free-wheeling on the bearings...

thanks for all the replies, would be nice having a Fiat with working air-con for once as well!

Even if you turn the aircon on it wont do anything if its low on gas. So it'll carry on free wheeling.

Anyway good luck with the swap. If you can get a regas with a dye then that'll be good. As then you can check for leaks on any pipes at a later time.
