Me and my partner who also drives the car(1.4 brava on a W reg) have noticed 1st gear can sometimes be a pain to get into when you are first setting off or to pull away from traffic lights and yesterday 2nd gear is starting to be nasty to change into, does this mean the gear box is shagged or is it something else? the car has only done 21500 miles from new

Re: Re: stiff 1st and second gear

same problem over here, the colder your bravo, the more the problem... have got my bravo 1.4 5months, 40.000 miles (60.0000 km)..

Not big problem, but doubting to go to garage...

A notchy gear chaange has been a character trait of both my bravo's, it happens mainly in cold weather. It rarely happens, but when it does a reclutch always sorts it, either that or force the gear knob into gear. Its never happened on any gears other than 1 or 2.

I dont find it a problem, its part of the cars personality. Maybe checking the gear box oil would be a good idea, but i wouldnt worry.

Yes, check the level of the gearbox oil and top up if necessary.

Alternatively refil the gearbox with gearbox oil of a lower viscosity at lower temperatures. Try some of the synthetic oils.

mine also does this in first, if it gets sticky push it as though into 1st then push it a little further to the right than normal, seems to work for me!

yeah i get that on my brava, i just push right in and it seems to do the trick i used to it now anyway, annoying but i get on wth it!

oh

spose i'll live with it then if other people suffer also.

Re: oh

same on my bravo that i had. especially when cold.....its the bloody same with my Civic Type R that i just bought!!! and im told its also common in the Honda as well... so if it can be common in honda's that are supposed to be pretty damn sound mechanically then i definatley wouldnt worry!!
