Hi I'm a newbie and not that clued up on all things mechanical,I have a 1991 fiat ducato 2.5 d I had a flat battery so I called breakdown company who messed about under the bonnet while he is telling me electrics are not his thing ,eventually he got me started so of I went he said it would be a good idea to fit a new battery ,after about 10mins driving the after market alarm kept going off so I stopped and unplugged the siren when I arrived home I tried to fit the new battery but every time I try to connect the negative the van keeps trying to start with no key in the ignition.Any ideas please I'm thinking starter solenoid? How do I check this is the case any help very gratefully received.

I would suggest removing starter then earth it with jump leads and try a live on a solenoid connector, and see if the dog kicks out i would also oil the shaft as well your problem is a constant live on the starter, once it is out you will be able to see for yourself.(y)
