Quick question, once I remove my stereo will I need a harness and steel housing plate for my single din stereo? Or can I use the harness I already have, as it's a Sony, with the replacement faceplate?

I searched the Internet and can't find a good step-by-step guide, so I'll be making one :)

I've made my own keys and took the unit out today, totally forgot to test the old harness lol

Which double din harness? how does everyone else get their single din units to work?

My Sony unit already has a harness, all I need to do is re-wire it. right?

my new stereo came with a steel housing which fitted snugly into the new facia plate
new stereo's usually require two live feeds...the red is usually switched with ignition and the yellow permanent live( to retain settings etc)
the bravo harness only has a red feed , which is permanent live
you have two options
1: wire the stereo yellow to the fiat red, and the stereo red to a switched source such as the ciggy lighter. This will ensure that the power to the stereo go off with the ignition
2: feed the fiat red to the stereo's red and yellow

i chose the second option as physically it was much easier, but you MUST turn off the stereo when leaving the car

Sounds better until you forget to turn it off and it runs your battery flat. :/

What do you mean, I keep seeing this but no one explains it.

My old car never turned off my stereo and all I did was pull the face off when I wasn't using it, this would put it into standby until I connected it again. If I pull the face off in the Bravo will it still be running internally or be on standby?

:yeahthat: in addition to this some head units will still drawn and flatten the battery with the ignition feed being permanently live even if you switch the head unit off manually or remove the facia.

Far better off getting a canbus enabled patch lead, will give you a propper ignition switched live, and enable the use of steering wheels controls also if the headunit supports it (y)

Hi guys, hope you do not mind for asking this here, but i don't think it deserves it's own thread:
Can the OEM Visterion HU be turned on outside the car? without a CAN connection????

The current system will switch on without the key. I have managed to rewire my Sony and its all works, the only issue I have is the ignition. I can't get it to turn off when I turn the car off, it stays powered up. There are some wires that I don't know what they do, more research required.

As I've posted above you'll either need to use a patch lead like the one I've posted, for a Sony head unit, or wire in a switched feed from the ignition or power aux for example.
