General Steering Columns and Splines

I am sure I have read various threads about the fitting of steering wheels from one car to another... So about time to try to come up with a definitive reference...
I have early cars, that have the large fine spline steering column/wheels, I also have a Giardiniera wheel from about 1971 which has the same spline.. I also have a 126 wheel that has the much smaller course spline. So thus a 126 wheel cannot be fitted to an earlier car, I have however read that some 500s will accept a 126 wheel, now it may be that early 126s have the bigger fine spline or that some 500s have the smaller course spline...
So rather than just "ahh I fitted this to that... 5 years ago" can people confirm if there was a change over year... if you have a 500 with a small course spline as per 126 or an early 126's had the large fine spline. years would be great...

I have found there are 3 different 126 Spline types
So a 126 can have a course or fine spline but is the fine the same as a 500 and does anyone know the years..

I do believe an R has the same course spline as a 126
