Hi everyone

Been having a bit of an issue with the 1.2 16v recently, just over the past week or so it hasn't wanted to start. It turns over no worries but will only start to catch after having the starter motor going for a fair few seconds then it dies almost immediately after coming off the starter motor. If you pump the throttle hard or hold it on full throttle it will eventually start, then run rough for about 10 seconds not firing on all cylinders, after that it runs absolutely fine and will do all day long!

Also it stars fine if it's a hot start...

As I've said, no signs of any other issues apart from when it's starting.

Any ideas?

Cheers

The battery's fine, charged it the other day to make sure too.

It does occasionally go a couple of days without being used, usually never more than 3 days though I'd say.

Does it only do it in these situations, or whenever its cold? I used to have similar with my Stilo when it had sat for more than 48 hours (although it wasn't that often), I put it down to damp getting in and around the coil packs and the associated area's.

That is an odd fault and could be down to a sensor or fuel supply. The pipes not holding pressure would make sense. I assume you have replaced the panda fuel pump with the punto one? As you know they operate at different pressures, and the 16v would struggle to run with the original pump.

Maybe something to do with the cold start / water temperature sensor?
It is on the inlet manifold, blue in colour, with a 2 pin connector.

Try using the master key if you've been using the blue one - I assume it's a mk1 16V? Sometimes the ECU gets mixed up particularly if the battery's been out/drained & the master might sort it - worth a go for zero effort anyway!
