hi all i am new here and am also female so thats a good start lol but for a couple of weeks now our fiat bravo 1.2 has started to just cut out when we slow or stop at traffic lights etc and last night as we were returning home all of a sudden the car started to vibrate and mis fireing now i have a brother in law to help me but hes no expert so i wondered if anyone could point us in the right direction before i take it to a garage

Sounds like poor sparks so check your spark plugs, change them if they have more than 20k miles, the plugs also have a habit of loosening themselves off. Go for the single pole type spark plugs rather than the double pole, you can buy them and quick delivery on line here

If you're good with a multi meter, you can check the spark plug leads for resistance- around about 5k ohms or less on the 1.2 but the figures aren't so important as that they need to be all about the same. If they're old ie 40k miles plus then change them. Make sure the ignition leads routing doesn't contact metal engine parts and cause shorting to ground which is a common fault on the 1.2

Then reset your ECU by disconnecting a battery lead and leave it for at least an hour to discharge and reset the ECU settings so it relearns your new set up

You might have a failing coil pack but go for the cheaper stuff see how that affects things first.

just thought id let you know i bought new leads and sparks then did the ecu thingy and now we are running like a dream once again so thanks alot
