Hey all,

Posted about this about 2 months ago but still have the same prob.

Dreadful squeeling from the wheel(s)on my Bravo 1.4s?? Now, originally I was told it was the front wheel bearings, so got them changed for about 100 quid. Didn't fix it did it!!??

Are there bearings on the back wheels?? Its really hard to tell where its coming from when ur driving.

Also, one thing that did cross my mind was that when I fitted my brake pads on the front wheels, I unfortunately chipped a bit of the pad when fitting them. Would this cause this problem? Anyway, its driving (wahey!) me up the flippin wall!

Answers on a postcard pls!!!

Yes you do have bearings on all the wheels - the bearing is there to reduce friction between the hub, which stays in one position and the driveshaft/Brakes which spin when the wheels turn. If the bearings where squeeling for a long time the wheel would probably have almost fallen off by now- its probably ur brakes - when use put the pads on did u grease the backs - you need some copper grease to reduce vibration, which in turn stops the squeeling

More Info

You really don't give a lot of info for people to help. For instance; wheel bearings will emit groans depending on load. So, when you go down the road (with the window open) swerve from side to side and see if the noise changes. Brake pads will squeal depending on the application of the pedal. A heavy screech when the pedal is full on means there is something trapped like a stone (and if the pads are the wrong way round). Light sqealing just as the pedal is touched is likely to be glazed pads ie you put them in and then went silly with too much heavy braking (or you're a granny and you only ever feather the brakes). Fix this by buffing up the pads and re-running in. Moderate squealing whilst on the brakes is likely to be pad shimmy which can be helped by applying copper grease.
Of course, if you have drum rears and you turn down the radio for long enough to hear it from the rear then it's just dust in the drums like london taxis (and cured by cleaning out).
