Driving home this afternoon I noticed a high-pitched squeeking noise when I steered slightly to the right. This was mainly when steering slightly to follow the road, and more severe turns, e.g. turning at junctions, didn't generate the same noise.

Anyone got any suggestions as to what might be causing this? I've a 1.8 16v Marea if it makes any difference, and the only other things that have been wrong in the last year are replacement of the front disks and pads in November which still seem to squeek when I brake, and an exhaust replacement at the start of June.

Cheers.

Will be brakes. When fitting brake pads, i always chamfer the pad metal ends which slide in the caliper carrier with a file. Then cover lightly with copaslip. This usually eliminates squeal. Also make sure the carrier is very clean where the pads sit. Also i rough up the Disc surface before fitment and make sure the Hub centre is very clean before i fit the Disc on. Also using new brakes too hard will "glaze" the pads and also cause squealing. Allow gentle braking for 50 miles to bed the pads in.
