Sqeaky Gearstick and funny rattle from passengger side

Hopefully this hasn't been posted recently (I checked but couldn't find a reference). There are two annoying "noises" coming from my '98 Brava 1.8 ELX:

1) between 0-45 MPH, a funny metallic "rattling" noise that you can only hear when the passenger front window is down. I've had a good look and checked the Exhaust etc but found nothing. Any idea's?

2) The gearstick. It squeaks like a demented mouse whenever I change gear! I've tried lubricating it - but it doesn't help. Again, is this a commn problem.

So you know, the car has done 53,000 miles and has just been serviced at 45000 miles.


Any help would be appreciated!

I know how u feel about the gear stick.....i actually put a post up not long ago about it and the response was to either wait until the service or spray wd40 on the part u can see in the engine bay when u change gear.

Personally i haven't tried it yet as i havent had the time with work but i think we could get rid of the problem by going under the car and spraying the linkage.
The noise comes from under the car and u cant get to it by taking the gear knob off! Iwill have a go this weekend but try it and let me know
