Technical Spring rates?

Technical Spring rates?

I plan on driving it, and maybe scrape a few speed bumps >:p

Yeah I was hoping to get to that after the tyre malarky was resolved lol

Basicly to get my wheels flush - well leaving a 10mm arch clearance - I need a drop of roughly 100mm, but the coilovers I've found only go as far as 60mm. So what I was wanting to know is if I could remove the springs from the coilovers and get the diameter and free length and spring rate so that I could get a custom ones made like these: http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/competition-springs/tein-racing-springs

I realise the original question I asked was for the OEM spring rating which is no use if I'm fitting coilovers, what I'd like to know is how to find out the spring ratings for the springs on the coilovers, if this is possible?

they only lower by 60mm for a reason(y)

if you want to measure spring rate you need to basically measure the spring fully extended then measure it with a mass on top of it and work out how many mm it's moved with how ever much mass/weight it is you've had to use to squash the spring. then you'll get a number ie 150kg/mm

however if your springs are progressive then this amount of mass needed will change the more you squash the spring.

spring rate also changes if you chop springs which is why people who chop their springs then find the handling crap as their shocks damping is no longer matched to their spring rate.

alternatively you could contact the manufactures of the springs/coilovers and ask them what rate their springs are. if you plan on removing the springs to measure them which i think might be a total pain in the arse you need to use spring compressors.

Cheers for that man, no matter where I look, omeone comes along with something better :p

Both look good, think I'll go for the FK's though, once all the interiors done :)

I assume all Stilo's have seperate springs/dampers at the rear? In which case these should fit the 1.2 if the fit 1.4? Are the hub carriers any different on the front between the 1.2 and 1.4?
