splitting lights...

as title,

whats the best way of splitting the lights open to clean the reflector and the plastics?
I remember someone saying boiling hot water. I dont wanna damage them tho.

anyone got a how to or could give me some tips?

dan, i think you might be able to it with a hot air gun, just go round the edges of the light with it but be careful not to melt the plastic

Dan, 3 posibilityes
1) heat the oven to 50C, turn it off and leave the HL in there for 10 mins. Take out and take off the glass. Needs heating for putting together.

2) hot water on the place where the glas is glued to the plastic. Need more bonding glue or silicone when put together

3) Take a house steam cleaner, heat the bonding place, take the glass off. Returning - heat the glue again and press the glass in (my method)

IN ALL METODS BE VERY SLOW AND DO IT EASY !!!!!

I have a n/s poly light that i got off ebay that is broken but glass is good, if you pay postage you can have it and try to split it. I got a refund from the seller.

I also have a passengers side marea poly light, glass is in mint condition as it lived behind a plastic headlight protector. I dont want much for it.

I wont be able split the light lens off for you, but you can have the whole light for £5 + P&P.

The Ball joint part has snapped off with some of the plastic. The brackets have a faint crack along them. Which means they tilt under the weight of the light. The light isn't perfect, only the glass.

I'll get some pics up.

Here you go pictures as agreed. The internals are fine and the glass is mint, its just the ball joint and the brackets that need attention.

The other light seems to be in better nick so you'd be better off with that, if anyone else needs one let me know, postage only which is about £7.70.
The level adjuster is broken and there's a crack on the back of it, hardly immaculate as the item description suggested on ebay! The glass is good.
I have found someone who is selling new poly lights units for £75 each but i think VAT is on top.

Not had a problem at all with these Headlights, two Brand New Headlights cost the same as one O.E Fiat Marea Headlight. They are cheap but good quality.

Whats the problem with them in your country?

its potentially fixable then

either way I can sort that one or swap bits over etc.

Now its just a case of cash now.

i have £5 in the bank but I'm pretty desperate as i cant drive round with no lights
