Technical Splitterbox issues

I have a sedici 4x4 1.6 petrol and had from six months old on 07 plate
Drove 53000 miles and suddenly getting a grinding and whiring noise from
The front of the car. Then when i reversed the car stopped and stalled.
Had it taken to my mates garage and told me it may be the gears and bearings in the splitter box. Has anyone had any issues similar or know of why it has happend to me.

No issues from our 1.6 thats now done 74k. How often were you using the Auto/Lock settings?

Spoke to fiat trade parts yesterday to get the price for the gears and bearings but seems they do not sell the parta individualy but will sell me a case for one. The only way to replace it from fiat is to replace the whole gearbox for £2340+vat. Spoke to suzuki and they will sell all the individual parts from the sx4.
