Hi Folks

Has anyone ever wired up one of these speedos?

Just trying to work out what wires I need and where they go from and to. Also, it looks like this array will cover one of the dashboard lights, to the right of the steering wheel.

morning Tim;
Is it an 'electronic speedo' where you break into the regular cable to enable a sensor to pick up the cable revolutions? if it is, I have a similar Instrument pod to fit on my car and I have set of instructions IN ENGLISH. Would you like me to send you a copy?

Hi Tom

I'm not sure of the answer to that. I bought it from Ricambio but there were no instructions with it. I did have to buy the oil sensor unit to run the oil gauge.

But I'm not aware of any special connections that need to be made.

I could get back in touch with Ricambio about this.

Is there any other way I can tell whether it's electronic?

Hi Tom

Got in touch with Franco at Ricambio and he's emailed me some instructions (which should have been with the unit but weren't).

Just have to translate them from Italian now. It's a scan so I can't just copy the text and translate it online :-(

That's most definitely a mechanical speedo - the speedo cable should match....if not your off to speedy cables

Hi Steve

Following up on your last post, have you fitted this speedo yet?

Looking at mine, it looks like it covers the two holes for the indicator bulbs on the dashboard? What are your plans here?

I was a bit disappointed at this since I didn't want to make too many more changes to the original look of the car.

Also the profile of the casing doesn't quite fit the shape of the dash. I'm thinking I might have to peel back the vinyl on the speedo, trim a bit off the shape of the body and then stick the vinyl back on inside the back of the speedo.

I think your problem is that the dash enclosure you have is a copy of the original Abarth ones designed to be fitted to 500L's not 500 F's. Here's a couple of pics of an original one...

Looking through old pics, F's seem to use the wider pod with the 100mm gauges and L's the narrower pod with the 80mm gauges. With the later, you get two versions, one with the warning/indicator lights in the dash pod itself and some mounted directly on the dash. I went for the later, as I couldn't source good versions of the pod bulbs, whereas I could for the dash type.

As you can see on my install above, the pod doesn't follow exactly the profile of the dash, but where mine is fitted to an L it's not a problem. On yours, the only way I can see that you can remedy this is to reprofile the pod. As you have concluded, this seems to be the only way to get a good fit.

Cheers

Steve
