Technical Speedo works sometimes

Hi All

Just got myself a Fiat Coupe that has an annoying fault, speedo works when it wants to, noticeably when I take it out for a long fast drive, works fine then at hi and low speeds, just wont work when I first get in the car and potter around.

Anyone got an idea what the problem is?
