Speedo's not working, and the garage said 99% of the time it's the sender unit (located somewhere near the handbrake I think). Any idea where I can get a new or secondhand one? Nothing on Henk's site and Google didn't throw up much info. As always, thanks for help and advice.

I think I have the same problem. I need to take a look at it but haven't got round to it yet. My dials work fine but the mileage does not turn round. I'll let you know if I find anything out.

i think speedo gauge and mileage counter are connected... i remember had same problem, but when i hit that gauge with hand it sometimes worked... so i decided to take out and found "cold solder" on some connector. i really can't remember where was.

Thanks Guys, it's both the speedo and mileage counter, so I figure a broken sensor is probably the first thing to replace. Hopefully that'll sort it and I won't need to open up the dash and display to solder anything. The sensor's somewhere near the gearstick I believe, not the handbrake as I thought. Still can't source a sensor though, so I'm using the rev counter as a guide. 3000 rpm in fifth gear seems to be around 70mph, I think!

Just passed the MoT anyway :) New springs, rear disks and pads fitted for winter, so Christmas came early for the B.

9/10 its what F4ust said. those cold solder connections seem to break resulting in speedo problems.
I had 2 cars with the same problem and know alot more who have it to.

Check out the tutorial given and give it a try.
You could also buy a new speedo but they are expensive

if i remember correct blue connector was problem. when you completly take out dials check for pins for that connector. i found this, because i was driving with tacho out and then i was pokeing and bending all connectors. and when i touch that small blue, it worked... also it wont harm if you spray all with contact cleaner spray.

Top advice everyone, thank you. Saw a complete instrument cluster last week on flea-bay - mph dial - went for £43, untested though. GPS is probably a cheaper option than buying new! My steering wheel obstructs the view anyway :(
