Ok has anyone with a hgt acctually tryed to find out there top speed, and what have people accomplished!!!! i was in my saxo vts the other day on the m65 had an audi tt up my arse so thought it was a perfect time to test what my little baby could do!! n e way i got her up to 138mph and then lost my bottle(ive only had the car 2 weeks so havent got a proper bond wih her yet) she didnt have much left in her but reckon i could have a got a few extra mph, n e ways i pulled into the middle lane still doin about 125-130 when the tt just sort of cruised past lol i slowed down and the tt fuked off into the distance, n eee wayyy to get to my point after this i looked up the specs of the tt the vts and the hgt!! now the specs of the HGT are 154bhp and a top speed of 132mph and a 0-60 time of 7.7s and it's got 20 vavles now my little beast only has 120bhp a top speed (it reckons) of 127mph and does 0-60 in 7.5s and has 16 valves so how does this work out is it becuase mines lighter or what or does bhp not really meen **** all

As you increase your speed past 70mph your speedo becomes exponentially more inaccurate. Past 100mph and it starts to be stupidly inaccurate.

I've seen a speedo indicated a top speed of 125mph in a 1.4 with 3 people in it and a weekend worth of luggage for all 3 people in it. This is quite impossible in a bog standard 1.4 bravo, and in truth was probably doing barely over 100mph. I suspect you'll find that a proper gps based speed recorder would prove that this is very much the case with your citroen.

buzz ur wrong about the bravo. it has a digital sender to the gague in the dash and is perfectly accurate regardless of speed!!!(trust me it shows exactly 2mph more at what ever speed compaired to my gps! its the same in tommy's and lozzes too) the issue with inacurate speedos is only aplickable to old cars with speedo cables!!!

oh and hgt's hit the rev limiter in 5th gear thats the only limit they have lol.

how accurate is the rev counter? i am led to believe that in 5th at 1000 rpm the car is doing 20.1 mph according to an old press release that means that when you hit the red line at 6800 rpm times the 20.1 by 6.8 and you get 136.68mph. so looking at my speedo the 2mph over is about right

Doesn't matter a jot. Cars have had this for many many years and its still inaccurate.

Put bigger wheels and tyres on and you've already messed the speedo's accuracy.

i bottled out at 130 still had a bit left though lol

i have a snooper which is a GPS speed sensor so pretty accurate

Just to add a bit more to the comparison:
A 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT has a 3.8 V6 24 valve engine with 263 bhp.

Its top speed is 140mph.

top speed has absolutely nothign to do with massive power figures!

bigpower just gets you there easier and quicker, but you can onl go as fast as the final drive ratio of your gearbox!

as someone correctly pointed out above, if you look how fast your going at 2000 revs, then 3000 revs, it shoudl go up by the same amount at 4000 revs etc etc and you can work out your potential top speed by looking at your redline!

You need a certain amount of power to overcome air/road resistance at speed.

And only the HGT has peak power at the mytical 'red line' on the rev counter. All the others will have lost power before you get to the 'red line'.

A lot of cars are incapable of reaching peak power in top gear. Air resistance becomes too high. In very small engined cars its not unusual for the top speed in 4th to be higher than in 5th.
