General Spare Wheel

I purchased a new motorhome nearly 4 years ago fitted on a Ducato base.
About a year later I received a recall from Fiat because there was a potential problem with spare wheel support mechanism that could lead to the loss of the spare wheel. A new mechanism was subsequently fitted. A few months ago the spare wheel fell of and was lost.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?

welcome to the world of dubious engineering Ive replaced 5 carriers so far they have a plastic gear driving a steel spiral it gets gummed up with road grime and dust and when you go to release it it strips and the tyre starts to fall havent lost a tyre yet but Ive come close one of the few disappointments ive had regarding the general engineering of the vehicle spoken to fiat but it was a waste of breathe alas telling an engineer about a bad design is like telling a mother she has an ugly baby cheers Adam
