About the Brava 80SX again - thanks for the good info about the paint(spot on)and radio - just thought of another one:
never thought to ask the bloke if he had a spare key - shouldn't think he had anyway. Can one get another one from FIAT? Is it an arm and a leg job?

i think if its the red key you need sumwhere on the bravo guide it says about £700 or sumthin like that for a new one from Fiat, but everything from Fiat is exspensive lol.

One of the most important things to ask for when buying a Bravo is has the current owner have the "red key". This is the master key for the locks and ECU, and without it you can get into deep trouble if something goes wrong. You cannot easily obtain spare keys to work the central locking nor can you reprogram the ECU. The majority of owners will never have to use it but those who have needed it and haven't got it have been stung with £800 bills. If the car you are looking at doesn't have one, either walk away or knock at least £500 off the asking price.

The CODE card is also required. This was either a tag on the key ring or a credit card sized piece of card. This contains a four digit code which may be needed for the radio as well. The handbook actually states.:-

"The burgundy key plus all the other keys and CODE card must be handed over to the new owner when selling the car"

So if its a dealer DO NOT BE FOBBED OFF - point this out to them.

Thats what the guide says.....

......right, cheers for that. Flippin'eck, £700..better not lose the one I've got then.

you can get a key cloned from the one you have, Timpsons do it for about£25. I had mine done from a local locksmiths called "Mr. Keys"

Spare key

OK, thanks for that - but isn't there all that bit about red keys and blue keys with all the data stored on them that controls the ecu, immobiliser and so on. Will a straightforward copy work just like that, as if you were getting a new key cut for you front door?

A copy includes a transponder so the locksmith has to have the equipment to fit and code the transponder. you will probably never need you red key, anyway they are a thing of the past now

i got some keys priced up about 2 weeks ago from a fiat delear and he said it would be £38 so you might aswell go to fiat rather than goin to a timpons or whatever ive heard people that go to these places sometimes end up with 2 keys one for the locks and 1 for the ignition doesnt sound worth it for the matter of a few quid

re keys

if the key you use is cloned, it will do everything the original key does, I had mine done and before i paid for it ,it was tried on doors, boot and ignition

keys

brilliant - where did you get it done? This is all turning out to be much simpler than the horror stories contained in the owners manual.

re keys

You can get the keys done at timpsons, a national firm, but any good locksmith will do you one. Yellow pages. Let your fingers do the walking

had my key done in there....brilliant, i cud unlock my doors and even start it, i was amazed cos i had heard those stories to, but it actully does work and its £25 a complete bargin...

I have a red key and 1 blue key but when I bought the car there was no "key code" with it. Is there anywhere else that the code could be?

There is a code etched on the blue key itself - B365...could this be the code?

I remember seeing an unused sticker inside the case of the original locking wheel nuts but thought it was to do with the nuts and have now sold the nuts along with the unused sticker inside the case.

Could this have been the code?

re code

I wouldn't think this is the code. I have the same number on my key
