Done a quick search but could find no mention, maybe using wrong words!?

Anyway - Has anybody had issues when changing front discs on a car with spacer/stud upgrade as on the Schumacher edition with 14" wheels.

My disc change last year ended up costing £200 or more!

I will elaborate if required.

That was DIY! - Schumi has the spacers and studs with nuts rather than wheel bolts.

Studs refused to come out without damage so result was -

2 discs - £19.98
2 bearing kits - £89.04
2 hubs - £94.09
8 studs - £59.41
set of pads - Est. £15
2 ABS senders - £57.41

Total £334.93, you have just depressed me more!

Would not have been an issue with standard bolts but schumi stud upgrade did not appear to be engineered correctly and would not come out of hub without damage! I damaged one side so put to a garage for other assuming that air tools would be the answer - No, they done the same. I think they were a bit embarrased though that they done no better than me - Their bill never appeared!!

Fiat did not even list the parts as on the car correctly (They initially got wheel bolts ordered in based on chasis no.) - I therefore assume car left factory as a sporting and was sent elsewhere for schumi upgrade!!
 
I never had a problem. Studs may of cross threaded or something to give you troubles.

Think I used a spanner and a half a clothes line prop to tighten and undo mine
 
Bolts were likely just solid having never been removed since new, I would have been tempted to use liberal helpings of heat and plusgas to free them up meself.

Some price, I have found that the studs stick through to other side of hub and consequently can rust on about the last 3 threads making them a little tricky to remove. Spray the rear of the hub with WD40 or some other freeing agent and this should help removal. On fitting new ones use some copper grease as the Fiat fit studs are held in place well.

It should be noted that unless being used with spacers, the Fiat studs will not work with aftermarket wheels as the Abarth wheels have a cut out to clear the 19mm bolt on the stud.
 
Interesting that you have to remove the studs to change the discs, The aftermarket studs don't need to be removed.

Yeah Fiat studs are very different to aftermarket ones in that they have a 19mm bolt in the middle so you bolt it up to the brake disc face, unlike aftermarket which have the non threaded bit in the middle.
 
Yeah, the FIAT design looks good, and makes sure you can get the studs secured, but...if they protrude out the back and rust/seize that's a bit c**p.

I had the opposite lol. I had/have extra thread protruding on the outside, and the ends have corroded a bit. When i went to undo the nuts, as they seized, the whole stud came out, just like a bolt :eek:

I have to get round to trimming them and thread locking them, but I'd rather this happen than to have the fiat ones seize in the hub.....plus they were a darn sight cheaper!
