Hi all,
I’m hoping to get some help finding a paint formula for Livia, my 1968 500. She appears to have been repainted in 464 medium blue at some point, which has started to come off in spots. All the local jobbers I’ve taken it to can’t find an Axalta or PPG formula for it here in the states… and their fancy cameras universally recommend a much too gray Chrysler color. Something about it seems to be difficult for them to match. Indeed, it often seems to be a different color entirely depending on the lighting and that is some of its beauty.

I’ve got a shop that seems willing to help source / import what I need, if I can give them some direction. Is there anyone with access to a Glasruit or other European paint manufacturer’s database that can confirm the existence of a formula for it? It would be a shame if this very pretty blue is lost to the ages!

I strongly advise dont try and find the paint by number. Fiat re use the numbers and you may, like me get a totally different colour. I wanted 2013 blue, and all they could do was supply a paint that matched the 1963 code exactly. Get a good automotive paint supplier to help. They are now able to match things so well, and I have found them to not be silly on price as this is the way these days. The old paint codes are accessible on the net if you google it but I cant remember exactly what search terms I used I am afraid. Chipex.co.uk have been great for touch up and did find the right code number for our last Panda which had an unusual colour. Our local paint factor has done three different odd ball colours and produced a 100% correct match on each occasion. You will be able to get an exact match though I am sure. Good luck.

@rattletrap

I did a bit of searching and found a Dittzler PPG code 12971 for a 1966 Fiat Medium Blue 464 - I understand your car is a 1968 but this shade only showed up when I went back to 1966. I enclose a screenshot from https://paintref.com (Fiat> 1966 Color Codes - Fiat Paint Cross-Reference) - this shows a Dittzler PPG code but nothing listed under Dupont, Glasurit, Autocolor or Sikkens, plus, for some reason it doesn't show a color sample for 464...

When I looked up the Glasurit w/site, https://colorline.glasurit.com/CCC/html/index.php it didn't show Fiat Medium Blue 464 for any year before or after 1968.

@124BC1 Thank you for taking some time to investigate!

I believe this is the correct paintref.com entry. It says the color was originally offered in 1972 and 1973. Either Livia needed a paint job a few years after she was built or someone just liked the color.

In any case, it gives Ditzler 14552 and FI-464/00N as alternate codes. Unfortunately, I've yet to find anyone with a matching formula.
