anyone know about solder?

i only know of
Silver Solder
Lead Solder
Lead Free Solder

I am sure I've read that there is more types with different resistance?

I need to join together abs sensor wire keeping the same resistance or sensor wont work.
On my croma the sensor is built into the hub, so the whole hub needs changing if i cant repair wires

ABS sensors, I'm pretty sure, don't rely on resistance. They'll be either Hall effect or simple magnetic sensors like the cheap and nasty TDC sensors FIAT use.

There are many, many, different kinds of solder. see [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solder]here[/ame] for example. The last place I'd ask about solder are a motoring forum! You want a common or garden electrical solder. Pop into Maplins and pick up some and some heat shrink (to insulate the bare bits).

You'll have a hell of a job melting silver solder with a soldering iron.
 
I have been in electrical engineering snce 1975 if you can get 60/40 solder was the standatd for many years .

Its still in use in many millitary applications lower melting point than lead free and does not tend to over heat components

As for the sensors more likely a power transmission problem ( low battery voltage) or the reluctor rings on the hub that change the emf in the sensors
 
I've got some old lead/tin mix solder and some newer lead-free stuff. I always seek out the old one, as the lead-free stuff's not so nice to use - perhaps it has a higher melting point, I don't know.

If you can still buy the stuff with lead in then it's much nicer to use. If not then lead-free still works. For either type, if you're soldering cables then you'll need a reasonably powerful iron. Cables are good at conducting heat as well as electricity, so they take a bit of heating up. Plus you'll do less damage to the insulation if you heat it up quickly with a more powerful iron.
