I know this is off topic, but it is directly connected to this thread:

I had been working 4 hours under the dash, inside the centre console, soldering and really doing a great job of stealth-manoevering the cable for a nice installation for our TomTom GPS. After everything was set up I had just one thing left to do: Clip the TomTom into it's holder at the window - then "svupp" and the TomTom just got wings and landed like a sandwich facing down. Result: Cracked touchscreen.
But I don't give up easily. Ebay was friendly and offered a new touchscreen from Hong Kong for the price of one beer at the pub.
Dismantling is a backwards Haynes: Reverse of putting together.
The cracked touchscreen.
Solder the 4 points from the new touchscreen to where you ripped off the broken touchscreen.
Cut some double sided tape (this is thin, pressure sensitive carpet tape with adhesive on both sides). Remove the plastic protective layer and stick the touchscreen and LCD screen together. It doesn't have to look good - function comes before looks here, as it will be hidden anyway.
The guts of the TomTom. Two hidden screws (holes) are at the bottom.
If you destroyed some of the sponge pads, they can easily be replaced with thick double sided tape - just don't peel off the upper protective layer. It's the white rectangle to the right.
Slide the connector into the block and lock it.
Peel off the protective plastic layer.
Snap the screens into the frame. Close the frame and insert the two screws at the bottom (hidden under the serial number tag).
Make sure you don't make the same mistake again. Nice work.
